Today in American Literature we continued our poetry analysis of Langston Hughes poems. The poem today was called “Mother to Son,” in which I really I enjoyed reading through and talking about the overall meaning to these poems. The biggest literary device that stood out to me was the Allegory. The physical item was the crystal and non crystal staircase but there was also another, deeper meaning. During our conversations of poetry this unit, it has inspired me to start reading my own poetry. Honestly, I used to dislike poetry quite a lot. I’ve been exploring the world of recently written poetry, the author being someone of my generation. There was one poem I read that reminded me of the “Mother to Son,” by Hughes.
