I was absent in American Lit on 10/30/23

10/27/23

After being out for a few days, I was a little confused in American LIT. The class was presenting their projects that we had started on Monday. My group had already presented, so I just had to turn in my personal task sheet. I also was working on taking notes on the other presentations, which I also had turned in at the end of class. I'm glad it's Friday though, it's going to be a good weekend. Overall, not a bad day.

Write about something you are certain of

I am certain that I will graduate college. Some people don't finish college, or they don't even go to college at all. Going to college or not going are both good and okay options, everyone has their own path in life. For me personally, I want to go into a field that requires a good education and experience. Even if I don't get into my dream school, can't afford out of state tuition, or just go through some bumps- I know that I will persevere. My parents and older sister all went to college, I know that is just something that I want to do. I will do it if I put my mind to it.

Write about something you don't exactly remember

Something that I don't exactly remember was my experience in middle school. Don't get me wrong, I remember it some, but not a lot. Most of middle school for me was affected by Covid-19, and I missed a lot of things. I think that it all kind of blurred together because of the quarantine. I can picture parts of it, but the majority of the quarantine and middle school isn't clear in my mind.

Write about a question I wish I had asked

I wished I had asked not one, but multiple questions to my grandfather. Unfortunately, he passed away years ago and I was never able to ask him some questions. He was a navigator for the US Air Force in the Korean war, which is the branch I want to join. I would've asked him many questions about his experience and thoughts he had on it. I would've also liked his opinion and perspective on things that I want to do with my future.

Write about someone you forgot about

Someone who I had forgotten about was my second grade teacher. Her name is Ms. Morgan, and I haven't seen her since around that time. She was very nice and made me feel welcome at a new school. I remember her being very understanding and always being easy to talk too. She was a great teacher, and she made a big impact on my life. I will try not to forget her again.

Write about a time you knew you were in trouble

One time I knew I was in trouble is when I was a little kid and I talked back. When I was a kid I talked back a lot, especially when I was upset. My parents would call me "Carolina," my name is Caroline though. I always know I am in trouble when they use that name. I haven't heard it in a long time, but it happened a lot of times- years ago.

Write about what you'd planned to do

I am going to write about the time I had planned to go to do my homework, but got caught up doing something else. This actually happens quite often. I remember a specific time where I had a very important math assignment that I had to do. That same night I was hanging out with a friend and we stayed up pretty late. I regretted it the next morning when my math homework was due and I didn't have it done for my teacher.

Write about what you used to know how to do

When I was younger I knew how to certain gymnastics tricks and skills. I did gymnastics for years and I loved it. My parents took me out of it after a few years because the training became very intense, and we were too young to be doing so much. I don't remember the placed I trained at exactly, but I do remember it was in downtown Decatur. I loved it a lot.

Write a long apology

This is an apology to my parents. I would like to apologize for the many things I put you through, and you still loved me. I'm sorry for being the reason yall spend so much money, especially medically. I am always getting hurt or having bad allergies. I'm sorry for causing any stress on you guys as well as negative emotions. I can be pretty annoying as well- thanks for putting up with that. I have so much love for yall, and Im sorry again.

Write a long thank you letter

This is a thank you letter to my parents. Thank you mom and dad for helping me for everything. I appreciate everything yall have done for me and will do for me in the future. You guys raised me right, fed into my dreams/interests, and always supported me. Thank you for helping me through school as well, the ups and downs of my grades. Thank you for always putting up with me, I was a tough child to raise. Overall, thank you again for everything. I will never forget it. I love my parents so much.

Write about something you can't deny

Something that I cannot deny is my habit to collect things. I still can make space for new things because when I grow out of the current collection, I usually get rid of/give away. For example; card decks, stuffed animals, blankets, and more. I love collecting things because it gives me a hobby that is hard to grow out of. This is because I can always make room for more.

Write about something I have too much of

I own too many stuffed animals, according to my parents at least. I started collecting all types of stuffed animals at a very young age. I never really grew out of my phase, and am still in it. They've always been comforting and sometimes they relate to something in my life. My favorite animal, for example, I have a lot of stuffed animals based on my age. They are mostly all in my room. I will always have more room for stuffed animals.

Write about something/someone being born

I remember when my baby pug was born, I love that dog so much. I don't remember the exact date, but I know it was November of 2020. After covid hit, my entire family just needed a little pick-me-up. We were sent pictures and videos of the mom and of our dog for maybe 2 months before we got to meet her. Our old pug, who sadly passes away, was names Lolli. Lolli was short for Lollipop. We kept that in mind when naming our new baby. We were all so happy when we got to meet our baby pug, Poppy.

When I walked into American Lit this morning I noticed that all of the desks were put into groups. After class started, Mr Rease explained that we were going to start a group assignment. We are presenting our projects/findings on Thursday which is our block day. Each group member was given a certain job that we were going to do, all based around the poem we got. Our poem is called, "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost. I relate a lot to this poem because of one of my favorite books, "The Outsiders," where the poem is used. "The Outsiders" was the first time I was exposed to Robert Frost and the poem. I am glad I got this poem over the others. Overall, the day went pretty alright.

10/17/23

In class today we picked off where we left off on the poem by Robert Frost yesterday. We were given a rubric/list that had information for 7 different paragraphs. Each paragraph was about something different, but we had to state our opinion at the end of most of the paragraphs. The most interesting paragraphs to me were the beginning and end because of the opening statements and closing statements. I think that these statements are both good hooks and summaries that can give you a really good idea about what the essay is about.

10/16/23

Today in 2nd period American LIT, we spent our class period analyzing a poem by Robert Frost. The Poem was called "Out Out," and was about a boy chopping his hand off. He didn't mean to, but he got distracted while using the saw. The amputation wasn't what killed him though, he actually died while he was in the hospital. There were multiple themes of the poem, but the one that stuck out to me the most was the life can end in a blink of an eye. This is because the theme of death makes me think.

10/13/23

Today in American LIT we continued our ongoing lesson on claims and writing an essay. We talked about comedians specifically and how some of them either do or not cross the line. Also, if they should be able to cross the line, whether it's okay or not. I think that comedians are necessarily "vital" for the general public, but at the same time it's not really their fault you're offended. That sounds harsh, but everyone is never going to agree on the same thing. It's okay not to agree, but at the same time respect is important. It was an interesting lesson.

10/12/23

Today was Thursday, but we had a normal schedule because of the break and testing. This means that it was a shorter block. We are currently continuing our process of the steps of writing an essay. Today we worked on claims and counterclaims, everyone was given a sheet of paper with a claim on it. My claim, for example, was that all dogs are ugly. I do not agree with this claim but I wrote with it either way.

10/10/23

Today in American Lit we were given a worksheet that had to do with claims and evidence. We also worked as a class to come up with different ideas for the topic we were given. I didn't necessarily learn anything new, but it was a good experience to brush up on some skills. Overall, the day went okay.
